How to Take Care of Your Skin

Keeping your skin healthy can help delay natural aging and prevent some skin conditions. A skincare routine is necessary no matter what your skin type is. Here are other factors to consider when taking care of your skin:

Watch Your Diet

Fruits and vegetables are good for the skin, they have vitamins and antioxidants. Apricots, blueberries, and yellow bell peppers help you look young. Other fruits and vegetables good for the skin include; avocados, pumpkin, spinach, kale, tomatoes, carrots, kiwi, and other leafy vegetables.

Salmons, sardines, and mackerel are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids which help the skin look clear and prevent aging. Dark chocolate contains antioxidants that help hydrate calories in the skin. It can also improve skin texture and appearance. Eat healthy fats such as eggs, nuts, fatty fish, and oil, they help to prevent aging.

Protection from Sun

The skin is sensitive to the sun and it is important to always take care of it. Severe exposure to sunlight can cause wrinkles, age spots, increase the risk of skin cancer, and other skin problems. Use sunscreen with a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 15. Depending on how long you’ll be exposed to the sun, you might need to reapply every two hours or more if you’re swimming or perspiring.

Ensure you get the right quality sunscreen that will give maximum protection. Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., the sun is strongest during that time. If you must be out, seek shade or carry an umbrella. Cover your skin with protective clothing such as long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and wide-brimmed hats.

Proper Wash

Washing your skin properly removes dirt and oils that accumulate, it also makes the pores appear larger. The skin excretes natural oils at night and having a proper bath is important when you wake up. You should shower before bed and after sweat or workout. Use warm water rather than hot water.

Strong soaps and detergents can strip oil from your skin, instead use mild cleansers. After washing gently pat dry your skin with a towel to have some moisture remain in your skin. This way the skin can absorb the excess moisture and re-hydrate itself. Use lukewarm water and a suitable cleanser to specifically wash the water. Apply moisturizer or lotion while your skin is still damp.
